i personally doesn’t agree with him at all. his oedipus complex theory is quite ridiculous and most of his method wasn’t scientific. i guess he’s cool for trying though
literally!! i'm still confused how he has such a big significance decades later when his work has been largely disproven and his behaviour is unforgivable. i totally agree with you!
I think people are often confronted by his work and then shy away from its true meaning under a shallow gaze of immortality. He was most definitely a lunatic but sometimes the crazy people have profound things to say.. I also think that it’s also important to look at Carl Jung in relation to him as their work is a kind of dialogue between schools of thought. Science is about developing theories and pushing them to their limits. Without intersectionality it’s hard to place these limits within a context.
as a clinical psych student, I don’t necessarily subscribe to everything freud mentions in his work but it is very interesting to read about. i recommend the books “an outline of psychoanalysis” and “inhibitions, symptoms, and anxiety”. the books are his but translated from german to english now! super interesting.
I’m definitely an overthinker, but I’m working on it! This was a wonderful recap, thank you so much, Niki! 🫶
